Have you ever been invited to participate in a sport that you were not familiar??? I have many times. Below are just two of the many stories I have to share:
Kayaking:
My company would have annual trips for their Sales Reps who exceeded their goals called President’s Club. I love achieving my goals. One time, we were in Puerto Rico at the Hyatt Resort.
One of the team building exercises we were asked to do was kayak racing. I had never done any kayaking before but the lifeguard gave the group a three minute lesson. It was to be a race on who would have the fastest time on the obstacle course that they created for us in the ocean.
Okay, we were off and I seemed to be doing quite well, at first. Then, when it was time to turn around to go back to shore, I was unable to turn my kayak around and was
going out to sea. Everyone from the shore was calling me to come back (as though I didn’t know I was going the wrong way). Finally, the lifeguard came for me and helped turn me around.
I thought, okay, that was over with. However, they wanted us to do the
course one more time. This time I didn’t go out to sea but had a tough time getting around one particular buoy. Again, the lifeguard had to help turn me around. I discovered it’s important to know how to turn around in kayaking just as it is in life.
A lot of people in my company thought I had trouble on purpose in order to get to know the lifeguard better as he was pretty cute. At the end of the week, my company gave us all a gag gift and mine was a postcard with a picture of a very cute guy (like the lifeguard) asking me to meet him at his cabana at nine pm.
TIP: Pretending you are not good at kayaking is definitely a good way to meet a lifeguard.
Tubing:
My company had an event at a Ski Resort in Maine for all employees which included
