don't see is the hours of work behind the scenes to get to that one break. Do you have a focus group or do you have people surrounding you that are just telling you what you want to hear? Are you open-minded enough to listen to others suggestions and implement them in a way that helps you accomplish your vision? Again we will also go more in depth in future articles on this subject alone.

In this first column, it is my hope to give you a glimpse at the basic thoughts of getting started in media. There is so much more to cover and I look forward to putting my experience to paper to help you reach your goals and make your vision come true. To reach me please email [email protected] and put MEDIA MORSELS in the subject line and I will personally answer each and ever one as rapidly as possible. As they often say at the network “keep talking - the world is listening”. Until next time, thank you and do something kind for someone today.

There’s no question. The Holiday Season can be incredibly stressful with an overwhelming number of obligations and activities. We can frequently feel the conflict of excitement for the opportunity to connect deeper with loved ones and the stress of the added commitments and responsibilities.

How do we support ourselves so we can still shine during the busy and hectic Holiday Season?

The key is to shine from the inside out. It’s turning inward and nurturing yourself to let the glow of your soul—your essence—shine into the world. I have three tips to support you letting your soul shine forth this Holiday Season.

* TIP 1: Do something you absolutely love every day, particularly first thing in the morning. It doesn’t have to be a big thing or take a lot of time, but it must be something that makes your heart sing. It should nourish you, feed you, and bring you deep joy, deep love, and deep gratitude.

That love will radiate out into your world. Maybe you’ve had this experience when you’ve been in a particularly happy mood. You go shopping and people smile and respond positively to you. Conversely if you’re in a grumpy mood, it can seem like nothing is cooperating and people are challenging to you. Starting your day with joy in your heart will help your day to be more positive, creative, and calm.

* TIP 2: Make self-care a non-negotiable. And I really mean non-negotiable. As women, we seem to struggle with self-care because we have this sense that we must give of ourselves, take care of others and serve. While that’s part of our role, it should not be at the expense of our own health and happiness. When our cup is empty, what is there to give?

Make space, even a small space, for self-care and put it first. I’m fortunate to have my own business, so I make my mornings my self-care. I’ve learned that when I nurture myself, I fully show up for my clients. I happily give them all of what I have to offer and they reap the benefits. It’s about being selfish in a way that helps you to give more.

TIP 3: Recognize that you always have a choice – always. This is liberating. Sometimes we feel like we have no choice, that we have to go to a work event we don’t want to attend or stay in a toxic situation. The truth is you always have choice. It’s a matter of what consequences are you willing to accept. The consequences of not going to work may be greater than the consequences of going to work, but recognizing that you’re choosing between consequences is empowering.

It’s recognizing the difference between, “I have to go to this event,” versus “What are my choices? If I go to this event, what will happen? If I don’t go to this event, what will happen? Okay, what do I want? I would rather have the consequences of going than the consequences of not going.”

Just that perspective shift is empowering. It means that you are in charge of your life. It keeps you from feeling like a victim. You will shine because you feel empowered by your choices.

Over time this simple practice will create a more fulfilling life. Reflecting on your choices and their consequences will broaden your perspective and you will start making different choices—ones that serve your heart and soul.

These three tips, consistently practiced – not just during the Holiday Season, but all year long – will transform your life and bring more joy and fulfillment to every area of your life. I encourage you to practice them during the coming Holiday Season and make a commitment to start off the New Year feeling more empowered, more fulfilled, and more radiant!
