Many of the resources listed here, particularly in
the area of internet and media safety, are technological tools. As was hopefully made clear in this
series, technology is not the ultimate answer to
our problems. A technical solution cannot resolve
a spiritual issue for someone who does not want
to change. Utilizing some of these resources can
be part of a larger solution, but it cannot be a
solution by itself. We encourage you to use these
tools wisely, relying on God’s work within you and
within your family members and community.
Internet Usage Statistics:
Even though widespread usage of the Internet in
homes is a recent luxury, according to a 2010
national survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation
entitled “Generation M2: Media in the Lives of
8- to 18-Year-Olds,” “8-18 year-olds devote an
average of 7 hours and 38 minutes (7:38) to using
entertainment media across a typical day (more
than 53 hours a week). And because they spend
so much of that time ‘media multitasking’ (using
more than one medium at a time), they actually
manage to pack a total of 10 hours and 45 minutes (10:45) worth of media content into those 7
hours.”
