Parenting Principle:
IDOLATRY
The Bible encourages parents to help children know and obey the greatest command: “Love the Lord
your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37). Yet Satan
can use technology to tempt us to believe that we need certain devices to meet our needs, provide
comfort, and solve our problems. As a result, we end up trusting them more than God. Take some time
to consider what this might look like in your family.
1. What do your kids “have to have”/“will just die without”?

2. How strong is your children’s pull towards technology? (It can be very different for each child.)
If you have a child with a stronger pull toward technology, how might you help them?

3. How much complaining do you face when your family has time with no TV/movie/video games? If
you face a lot of complaining, what are ways you can address this reaction, and underlying causes,
with your children?
