No disrespect to past artists, but over time, I believe fly fishing related artwork has generally been very predictable and repetitive. This has resulted in people growing accustom to extremely basic and straightforward artwork when really they are capable of appreciating much more complex concepts.

I have never realized this fact more than during one stint of a trip in 2014. After graduating, I hopped in my 1999 Ford Taurus Wagon and set off for two months on a solo fly fishing road trip around the western United States. Throughout my time in Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado, I met some amazing people, fished some reputable rivers, landed some memorable trout and lost twenty pounds on the Cliff Bar diet. However, what stands out as the most influential experience from that trip is a residency I did with Ruminate Magazine in Fort Collins, CO.
