Revive - A Quarterly Fly Fishing Journal Winter 2016 | Page 145

I was introduced to fishing by my father at the ripe age of three, and guess you could say it stuck. I can't think of a period of time in my life when I didn't fish on a weekly basis. When I was a kid, fishing for me meant the one pack of hooks I'd been given, my Zebco 33, anything I could find in the refrigerator that might stay on a hook, and whatever body of water I could ride my bike to and still be home by the time the street lights came on. I had no idea then how lucky I was, and how something as simple as a fishing pole would change the course my life.

Through fishing I made a friend, Justin Clark, who Introduced me to skateboarding. Through skateboarding I made a friend, Jud Ferguson, who introduced me to tattooing; and then as full circle as it goes, through tattooing, I was introduced to fly fishing. I didn’t know at the time what I was getting myself into, but, then again, how could I have?

I fell in love with fishing all over again. It was all so new to me. I didn’t have a clue what I was doing and I wanted to learn everything there was to learn about fly fishing. I mean, what a thing! Fly fishing to me is the purest for of fishing right next to swimming in and catching them in your teeth. You have to take the fish on their terms, not yours.
