Revive - A Quarterly Fly Fishing Journal Volume 2. Edition 2. Fall 2014 | Page 15

I have always been mesmerized and nearly intoxicated with Cutthroat trout. A big part is

the journey and places that are involved when searching out a true native strain. The

beauty of the fish itself is without compare in my mind.

Being a native strain to most of the Western U.S., I find them to be my most sought after

quarry. They have been running the waters all around me for so long they almost seem

prehistoric at times. They are a truly elusive strain in need of the perfect conditions to

grow and survive. Finding a place where they have flourished and thrived is a fly

fisherman's treat.

So fragile, yet so voracious and colored like a true artist's palette. The aggression they

display when chasing a fly makes it all the more fun. They some how take me back to

another time and connect me to the roots of this sport. The allure and compassion for this

trout is something I hope everyone can find in their journey. Long live the Cutthroat trout

may his native waters always flow .
