There are times of the year when lakes need to be the focus out of necessity. All that brown and dirty river water does not allow for much in the way of catching. Then there are times when the ice is gone, its warm, and for a short window hungry top feeders make lakes the destination of choice. Regardless of the when or the why lake time fills a need for a change of pace and a different experience.
