Revive - A Quarterly Fly Fishing Journal (Volume 1. Issue 1 summer 2013) | Page 18

I moved to Michigan nearly six years ago to chase the many fish

which swim this state’s fabled waters. I was an “ordinary” fisherman back then…it was a simpler time. I would fish dry flies when I saw

feeding fish but primarily I was a nympher; and a good one at that.

Then, one fateful mid-April day, I was introduced to streamer fishing

as I now know it, and was forever changed.

The flies were large, the pace nothing short of feverish, and the takes

were savage. Trout fishing changed for me that day from a peaceful

quiet pastime to something dangerous and wild. I saw a whole new

side to a species I thought I knew everything about…and it scared me

a little.
