R
espect is an important feature in society. We are
Nigerians who plan forward, adapt well, and are
influential. Our interaction with the world is large-scale.
My parents gave me a name which marks my Yoruba origin. Two
generations before me, my grandparents came to live and work
in England as immigrants and continued to value their identity.
CULTURE
OF TODAY
by Olamide, a Young Nigerian
When I first visited my family home in Nigeria in 2008, I
saw the lively neighbourhoods. Young people were very
dutiful. On returning to London that year I was motivated
to talk with my peers about the needs of our nation, and to
increase my knowledge of Nigerian affairs. Whilst I was still a
college student, I found that Arts and journalism were things
that others like me would use to express ourselves.
Today, my desire for this nation is growth. I am thankful
for what our leaders have brought. It’s a blessing that we
are free to serve our community. I pray that we all
continue to love God and build our nation.
May we teach the values of our culture to the next generation. ❖
