THE CERAMICS OF NOVE
The region of Veneto in northeastern Italy is a historic center for ceramic arts. In the province of Vicenza, on the banks of the river Brenta, is a small town called Nove. In Italian, nove means “new”. The name is fitting as Nove is part of a countryside that has been uncovered over time due to the narrowing of the Brenta. The shrinking of the river revealed soft lands rich in clay, which the first artisans of the area used to produce fine pottery. The town of Nove is still home to a local network of ceramic industries.
