Maureen helps organize fundraising art events to support local community groups such as Pack the Pantry, to benefit the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry. She has been part of the original Aurora Art walk for four years, was a member of the chamber of commerce for over 10 years as a designer and artist, was an original participant in the movement that is still in place to bring arts to the community and get an arts cultural center and studios for artists in the area.

These actions reflect her belief that art can change a community. “In New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, artists were one major component that moved back to help revitalize it. . . artist[s] are so respected and appreciated in that city. They make the city. Musicians, street artists, performers, galleries and more. It is what draws people to it.”

2014 was a busy year for Maureen. She was voted 3rd best artist by the Aurora community, became the new president of the Midwest Collage Society and was one of 18 artists in the US chosen by Golden Artist Colors to train with them to become a Certified Golden Artist Educator, GAEP.

“It has been a personal journey for me. The story, the struggle and the agony of loss and the found love of relationships. This body of work has pushed me to a different level of painting, making me explore different surfaces, mixed media and texture. Many challenges, births, death, resurrection, heaven and hell and more have been captured in these paintings. I am grateful.”
