bosses used to say, but at minimum, it is about paying attention.

Pollen analysis. Dendrochronology or tree ring dating. These are but some of the tools that environmental scientists have used to try to understand the environmental conditions of the past.

But how will scientists of the future interpret the reusable packaging sector of today, and assess the "history" of its role in contributing to sustainability?

Will they see an industry that has continually strived to improve the sustainability of its processes and products? Case in point, Svenska Retursystem has announced improvements to the RPC manufacturing process, as well as longer than expected product lifetime, leading to a lower carbon footprint. Read more on Page 9.

Will they see an industry that increasing develops creative and comprehensive customer solutions? (LPR, Page 17.) And will they see a community of solution providers that has looked to help collaborate at the highest levels to help make a difference? (New Plastics Economy, Page 6.)

The answer isn't always reusable in our quest for more environmentally friendly options, but I suspect that it should be far more than at present. And it will always be about meeting the needs of a sustainable society through the development and successful execution of new solutions that better serve it.
