REVIEW April 12-13, 2018 Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia www.myecommercesummit.com Some of the speakers talked about actionable marketing and operations strategies and tactics to grow an e-commerce business in Malaysia and leverage the fast- growing digital economy. Sharing secret tactics to grow business in cyberspace MALAYSIA’S e-commerce sector is set to grow given its booming digital economy and support from the government for e-commerce. For example, the National E-commerce Strategic Roadmap announced by Malaysia’s Prime Minister Najib Razak in 2016 aims to accelerate seller adoption of e-commerce, make strategic investments in select e-commerce players and promote national brands to boost cross-border e-commerce. In light of these developments, the Malaysia Ecommerce Summit 2018 was created to give Malaysians the opportunity to find out more about the business and learn directly from the country’s biggest e-commerce brands and experts who shared practical, case-based e-commerce knowledge to the public at the event. During the two days of the summit, more than 400 participants had a chance to partake in a government panel (which was also available via online streaming) and 16 exclusive master classes from leading e-commerce practitioners. They also heard two “inspirational” Malaysian e-commerce success stories from the speakers. E-commerce companies and solution providers offered their service and consultations at the e-commerce expo at the summit and exhibitors included Google, Lazada, Egenz, YYC Business Solutions and many more. Participants got to learn about different aspects of e-commerce in Malaysia from payment gateways to government grants. 42 Retail Asia May 2018 E-commerce explained in less than 48 hours The summit’s organising team shared: “Our focus is on no-fluff content. Our speakers agreed on sharing their true business stories and their best performing business tactics. We had high expectations, but what the speakers delivered was even better than what we anticipated. Lazada delivered a great session about the future of e-commerce in Malaysia. We also had Google Malaysia to talk about Google Shopping Ads, which is fantastic for e-commerce marketing on the search engine, as well as free business tools available in Malaysia, and Kok Hing Lim from iPay88 to guide the participants through the payment gateways systems.” Some of the most awaited sharing sessions came from Chen Chow Yeoh, co-founder of Fave, and David Chmelar from iPrice, who moved the crowd with their business stories, according to the organisers. “We are grateful to the Malaysian government agencies — Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) — for joining our exclusive panel discussion about the government initiatives for e-commerce in Malaysia. There are actually some easily available government grants and tools for e-commerce small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that not many people know about. “The panel discussion included many important information for SMEs in Malaysia; hence, we decided to live-stream it for free so it can reach entrepreneurs from Perlis to Johor Bahru and Sabah. It is now available to watch on our Facebook page,” the organisers added. Malaysia Ecommerce Summit took place on April 12 and 13 this year at the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation campus in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. ra
