When he was asked to join the BSO’s Board more than 10 years ago,
it didn’t take long for Ken DeFontes, BGE’s then-president and CEO, to
become a champion of the Orchestra. “The BSO is part of what defines
Baltimore. It gives the city a reputation as a place that people want to come
and live, work, and enjoy themselves. I wanted to help preserve and ensure
its long-term success.” He realizes that such success depends on more than
great music. “If the BSO can strengthen its endowment, it will have the
resources to preserve the quality of its music and also to do more in
the community—things that are essential to maintain our relevance.”
