Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) In terms of raw numbers, the majority of survey respondents were not of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander origin, however, 13% identified as being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander origin. This is significant in that at the 2011 ABS Census, only 0.7% of the City of Whittlesea’s population identified as being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent. This is more than the Greater Melbourne ATSI population (0.5%) and comparable to the Victorian total ATSI population (0.7%). At the local government level, comparative to other local government areas in Victoria, there is a significant ATSI population living in the City of Whittlesea. The areas with the greatest ATSI population in the City of Whittlesea include: Whittlesea Township (1.1%), Epping (1%), Bundoora (0.9%), Mill Park (0.8%) and Lalor (0.8%)28. The WCC ER survey trend data indicates that, in the period between 2014 and 2006, the percentage of survey respondents from lone person households has increased by almost 5% over the period. Of those respondents from the 2014 survey who indicated they resided with dependent child/ren, 66.6% had at least one child under the age of 10 years.
