DEBATE REPs DEBATE: Do you think online training is the way forward? Will it replace one to one training? Lonan O’Herlihy, founder of K-Fit, www.knightsbridgefit.com Dal Dhaliwal, health and fitness e pert, and radio presenter, founder of ody erfect ersonal raining Studio, www.bodyperfectpt.com I’m the only trainer I know of that trains pretty much solely via Skype. In the average week I’ll train clients in around 10 cities, wherever they may be. Needless to say the majority are of ultra high net worth and travel continuously. The advantage with the Skype training I provide is that the individuals who train this way have the freedom to travel and can maintain hectic business schedules while still training wherever they are with their PT. That said, some people respond better to training with a PT in person, or prefer weighted sessions where the need for a professional is a necessity. I do Skype training for multiple reasons firstly li e to now my clients will never be without a trainer and secondly, that they learn to train themselves – in many cases without a gym – something a lot more people could do with. There’s also something about knowing you’re successfully training differently to everybody else that drives me! I am the owner of a personal training studio and also offer an online training service nline training is rapidly becoming more popular and seems to be a real trend at the moment. My online training service enables me to reach clients globally. It’s a convenient and cheaper option for many people and has no restrictions on location or times. However, I believe majority of people still enjoy the personal touch and face to face sessions that our one to one training service offers rom my personal experience of delivering both services, I feel that communication and rapport building is more effective with one to one training ne to one training offers client accountability that an online training service may not. I also believe with online training it’s more challenging to keep a check on clients, such as monitoring they are carrying out e ercises safely, effectively and with correct technique. With one to one training, I can spot and correct instantly. I also notice that with one to one training, my clients are likely to be more motivated and stick to their workouts. Some individuals will not be suited for online training. I don’t think online training will replace one to one training. @REPsUK 43 REPs 43 Debate.indd 43 21/04/2016 11:22
