Unless you ’ ve been living on an island in the outer hebrides with no tV or mobile , you ’ ll know that the government is putting more emphasis on healthy active lifestyles in several different ways – and that ’ s good news for fitness professionals . hardly a day goes by without news of more encouragement to get Britain active .

we hope you ’ ve also heard the good news about the future for your membership . Nearl 30,000 people , or around two-thirds of all fitness professionals in the uk are now registered on reps , making it easily the largest register of its type . in april , we sealed a deal for reps to be run by a joint venture between sports coach uk and Skillsactive .
on a day-to-day basis , there ’ ll be no immediate change to the benefits you enjoy from reps membership , including the insurance cover which is so important to you .
“ ok , so business deals are being done all the time ” you may say , “ but what does that mean for us ?” it means a lot – and it ’ s all good news .
the first point is that it ensures the independence of our register , so we can focus on maintaining the quality the reps badge has represented since 2002 , giving confidence both to employers and the public .
the partnership gives us access to an online learning platform with a range of cpD packages and the technical know-how to develop these much further . it also brings in-house creative , marketing and communications services . we ’ re confident you ’ ll soon see the impact of these .
like most sectors , sport and activity is constantly evolving . sports coach uk has developed qualifications with more than 30 sports and is leading further europe-wide developments . we know the reps model works – after all , we ’ ve been going for more than 10 years - so we have the ability to expand the model into other sectors .
So what ? a more widely accepted set of registers will allow the workforce in sport and activity to demonstrate their transferable skills . that in turn means more access to jobs for members and a more flexible workforce for employers .
Deals like the one we ’ ve just completed don ’ t happen overnight , and there was a period when we weren ’ t able to say anything . now , with a strong , secure partnership in place and the greater national awareness of the importance of exercise , there ’ s a brighter future ahead for exercise professionals and an even brighter future for reps and registers !
