Strengthening Mental Health in South Australia In April and May 2017, PEACE Multicultural Services conducted a mental health consultation on behalf of the SA Mental Health Commission with over 200 people from CALD community groups, representing 38 ethnicities. The purpose of the consultation was to listen to, document and represent the views and experiences of CALD people in order that their individual and collective community needs could be clearly included in the development of the new South Australian Mental Health Strategic Plan. Success Indicator: Relationships Australia SA services respond effectively to individual and community diversity. The project was undertaken in partnership with people at risk of mental illness, those with lived experience of mental illness and their families and carers, providers of mental health, wellbeing or related services, government, private sector and non-government agency partners. The outcomes and insights were presented at a ‘Have Your Say’ Forum held in June 2017 which was attended by 80 people from different CALD communities. The South Australian Mental Health Commissioner, Mr Chris Burns and Member for Hindmarsh, Mr Steve Georganas MP spoke at the event. The Forum included the graduation ceremony of ‘Community Champions’ and the launch of the ‘Together we can make a positive change’ video created by South Australian African Communities Health Advisory committee (SAACHAC).
