RELATIONSHIPS AUSTRALIA SA IN THE COMMUNITY Throughout the year Relationships Australia SA organised, participated in and collaborated on many events and activities which promoted individual, family and community wellbeing. These provided opportunities to focus on building social cohesion through encouraging cultural respect; remembering people’s histories and listening to their voices; supporting families to create and enjoy positive relationships as well as strengthening individual and community resilience. SWAPv Conference 13-15 July 2016 Pride March, 22 October 2016 Relationships Australia SA staff presented at the Student Wellbeing and Prevention of Violence (SWAPv) Research Centre Conference, which featured national and international researchers presenting papers and workshops on student wellbeing; prevention of violence and aggression; positive mental health and bullying and cyberbullying. Students from Relationships Australia SA’s Future Youth Initiative catered a daily morning tea and a high tea on the final day of the conference. The students also catered for President Coleiro Preca of Malta. Pride March 2016 was the largest ever in the event’s 43-year history. Over 45 community groups, including Relationships Australia SA staff members and their family and friends, took part in celebrating the courage, solidarity, resilience and contribution of LGBTIQA people. Pride March National Apology to Forgotten Australians and Former Child Migrants 7th Anniversary of the National Apology to Forgotten Australians and Former Child Migrants 16 November 2016 Elm Place, together with community members organised a gathering at the Peace Park Daisy Memorial for the Forgotten Australians and Former Child Migrants to commemorate the anniversary and to remember loved ones. The event was attended by the Hon. Susan Close MP, Minister for Education, and Child Development and Dr Dee Michell of the University of Adelaide, who spoke to the crowd about her research into the history of foster care in Australia.
