sujah Records was started
in 2010 by dub poet and
song writer Donna Burnett.
Inspired by the lack of equal
opportunity for women in the
music industry, Donna, who is
also a recording artist under the
Osujah umbrella, opened her fist
studio at her home in Beverly, St. Ann, Jamaica, but later moved
it to Main St, Priory, St. Ann. The concept for Osujah was
developed in April 2012 when research, discussions and
preparations were made to obtain equipment to build the
recording studio. The structure concept and framework were
supported and facilitated by both Donna and the first engineer,
Markel ‘Papa-Linkie’ Cole.
Osujah Records purpose is to cultivate, harvest and share
available talents for the universal edification and elevation of all
people, and their collective vision is cultural and spiritual
enlightenment, enrichment, and upliftment through the
audiovisual arts.
Lady Donna is Osujah’s first recording artist, with her mission to
deliver important and vital messages through music. Together
Lady Donna and Markel Cole have spent countless hours creating
beats, working on melodies and receiving songs. To date, Osujah
has worked with and represented several artists. They have done
work with Bettadayze who has now moved on to other
opportunities. Their current artist roster includes: Anaicon, Buss
Weh, Ikonji, Ras Pree Dem, I Nanny and the CEO. Lady Donna.
The label has collaborated with other artists as well; namely:
Alpancho, Utan Green, Jah Torch and La Bertram.
Osujah is committed to using the music in a positive way to build
on every level. As a person from a military background, Lady
Donna values discipline determination and focus on her mission
and fosters these principles in all her artists and team members.
Osujah Records goal is to make a positive difference by
partnering with schools, churches, health institutions and local
communities to raise funds for necessities, increase awareness
and encourage community participation and involvement in
various programs and activities geared toward self-improvement.
