John Pass ’99 of Tacoma, Wash., was
approved last fall for a service dog from
Paws With a Cause because he has
been struggling with seizures for some
time. A surgical treatment in 2001 ultimately led to an increase in seizures, so
last summer he received a vagus nerve
stimulator implant. The device gives an
electrical impulse that can shorten seizures; also, John can prompt the device
to give off a preventive electrical surge if
he feels a seizure coming on.
