Barb is a teacher. 42 Alumni Notes from SHU in Benton Harbor Established in 1982, the Siena Heights Benton Harbor center, located on the campus of Lake Michigan College, has awarded nearly 450 bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Deb Carter, site director in Benton Harbor since 1982, has been named dean of offcampus programs at Siena Heights. She will continue to work out of the SHU offices at LMC, but will be responsible for all of Siena’s off-campus degree completion centers. Suzanne Main Trenkle has been promoted to site director. Marie Suzor ‘99 continues as administrative assistant for the program. Dennis Rupp ‘87 is an engineer with Borg Warner AFS in Sallisaw, OK. He and his wife, Paula, live in nearby Fort Smith where they are “enjoying the south with no snow!” Karen (“Ren”) McKie ‘98 is finishing her master’s degree at Eastern Michigan University, where she has been co-teaching an on-line course and completing a practicum with the Monroe County Friend of the Court. She expects to attend Emory University School of Law in Atlanta this fall. Lisa (“Stripe”) McClure ‘98 is living in Romulus and worked for Romulus Middle School this past year. Susan Nilson ‘00 is a dietary supervisor at Countryside Nursing Home in South Haven. Susan and her husband, Allen, have two children, Jamie and Andrew, and live in Watervliet. difficult book indeed.” He first tried to write the book in the third person, focusing on the effects of alcoholism and addiction; but “after many failed attempts, I gave up and decided just to write an autobiography dealing with the first 18 years of my life.” Zane Sarraf ‘85 lives in Yanbu Alsinayah, Saudi Arabia, where he is manager of computer department services for the Royal Commission. Ronald ‘90 and Barbara DeVantier Schmidt ‘86 live in Blissfield. Ann-Marie Snyder ‘86 and her husband Roger ‘85 live in Jasper. Ann-Marie works at Siena Heights as secretary in the Office of Communications & Constituent Relations. (Her responsibilities include proofreading Reflections!) Roger works at Tecumseh Products as a manufacturing engineer. Fred, a social worker at Greenbrook Recovery Center in Saline, earned his MSW from Eastern Michigan University in 1999. He is also the author of an article titled “Hoosiers’ Heals” that recently appeared in the Hickory Husker Home Court website (www. hickoryhusker. rivals.com). The article describes Fred’s interpretation of the movie, “Hoosiers,” which he uses to illustrate spiritual and recovery issues in his work with persons recovering from addiction. Sachiko Sato Pickler ‘87/ MA and her husband, Gary, “are delighted to introduce a new addition to our family, a daughter, Emma Jun Pickler, born March 27, 1999, in Jiangxi Province, China.” The Picklers live in Wixom. Barbara Ferry Boyd ‘88 remarried last fall and now lives in Columbia, TN, with her husband, Terry. Barbara teaches infants and babies at the Hospi-tots Child Development Center; Terry is a member of the TN National Guard. They also are training to become foster parents. Daniel Buba ‘88 is a partner in the Indianapolis law firm of LaCava-Buba, LLP. He lives in Carmel, IN, with his wife, Erica, and their son, Stephen. Mary Hellner ‘88 is an account manager at Bell & Howell Information and Learning in Ann Arbor: “I am the liaison between publishers and my department, which provides ProQuest Archiver: online and intranet archive solutions for newspapers and magazines. My daughters, Hannah and Sophie, and I love being back in Chelsea, my hometown.” Rick Morisette ‘88 married Carolyn Gray on April 8 and bought a house nine days later. In addition, Rick writes, he’s been “very busy putting my HRIM degree to work as marketing associate for Sysco Foods of Detroit. Anyone seen or heard from Mitch Behrens?” The Morisettes live in Grosse Pointe Woods. Tom Weber ‘88 transferred from Muskegon to Saginaw in 1998 with JC Penney, where he is a senior merchandise manager. Tom and his wife, Lori, have been married Business Services, LLC in Ann Arbor. She lives in Tipton with her husband, Leonard, and two sons, Shawn (12) and Dylan (6). Anne Lund ‘89 married Alan Strominger June 3. The Stromingers met through their jobs at Cornerstone Engineering in Wixom, where Anne is administration and quality manager and Alan is systems manager. They live in Fenton. Rosalee Griewahn ‘90 lives in Jackson and is coordinator of financial services at AccuBilt Inc. Melissa Durbin Growden ‘90 (pictured above) continues to play a part in the development of a World War II memorial in Washington, DC, a project originally instigated by her grandfather. In early June, Melissa (who serves on the memorial’s national advisory board), her brother Melissa Durbin Growden ‘90, Tom ‘95 and Dori Durbin ‘94 were on hand for the presentation of the State of Michigan check to the World War II Memorial.
