Genie In The Gutter collaborating with Cut to the Chase productions

Back In March 2012 Genie In The Gutter were approached by Jen Hayes, artistic director of Cut to the Chase Productions who asked us to work in partnership with her on the Tony Teardrop production.

This involved a series of weekly R&D workshops delivered by their Outreach Director and actor Carl Cockram. Carl fruitfully engaged our service users opening up opportunities for them to explore issues and increase confidence and self esteem whilst also offering a performance platform. 5 Genie service users feature in the plays promo that can be viewed by clicking this link…and two will be performing every evening in the plays pre cursor during its 15 night run.

Cut to the Chase is currently building a global reputation for conceiving and creating groundbreaking projects. At the heart of their work is collaboration bringing innovative ideas, culture, community, audiences and world class artists together.

Esther Wilson

Playwright Esther Wilson, whose credits include Unprotected; (winner of Amnesty International Award); Ten Tiny Toes and The Pursuits of Darleen Fyles, originally wrote 'Tony Teardrop' as part of a regional voices scheme with the National Theatre for radio in 2004; it has never been produced as a stage production.....until now!

Known as a provocative writer Wilson often covers taboo and political subjects. Her powerful adaptation on homelessness is a true story sadly reflected globally in society today.
