AUTHOR INTERVIEW
Who helped you once you entered BookWorld? Is there a particular
blogger or author you would say mentored you through the pro-
cess? If you could thank them, how would you do it?
Lindy Spencer. She gave me my first graphic art job in the industry, but when she found out I
wrote she really really encouraged me to get back into it. TJ Weeks really helped me by encour-
aging me to try short stories.
Do you have a message for your readers?
Thank you so much for the love and support. Thank you to those that have stuck with me since
my journey began!
What is a common trap for aspiring authors?
Over-thinking or jumping into the deep end feet first. I've seen far too many get into the industry
for the wrong reasons. What's one of those? If you're getting into indie writing for the money
you're in it for the wrong reason. Many of us do not make the kind of money newcomers coming
in for this reason are expecting. Another reason I've noticed is insta-fame. It just does not work
that way. Another thing I've helped authors deal with is over-thinking. Over-thinking every single
little detail will kill your flow. You have to get it out, the story, must just get out. There is editing for
a reason. The editing you do after you finished your manuscript the first run to create your drafts
and editing by a professional.
What is the greatest thing and the worst thing about BookWorld in
your honest opinion?
The greatest thing is the community and the worse thing is the community. Many in the communi-
ty are legitimate good people just wanting to help their fellow authors and industry members, but
there are also several in the community that just cannot be happy and take it out on others. I've
not had to experience the negative side very much, but I've seen it happen many times to others.
My advice is just ignore things if you can, pick your battles, and learn to filter yourself.
