WHAT MAKES A MOTHER GREAT?
In our modern day and age, there seems to be some
competition when it comes to parents, specifically
mothers. Often times we see other mothers and
compare them to our own. A child with a mother
who is too strict is jealous of her friend’s mother,
who lets their friend get away with anything. On the
other hand, the child of the parent who is too
lenient, often wishes for more structure in their life.
At the end of the day, parents ultimately want the
absolute best for their children, but constantly
having to be compared with others can make that
difficult, which poses the question: What makes a
mother great?
God’s best creation and best gift any being will ever
receive in life is their mother. From their charm to
their loving nature, to all they do for us, there will
never be a more important job for someone to
have. A mother will sacrifice so much and ask for
little to nothing in return, always being sure to put
those she loves ahead of herself. A person will never
be loved as selflessly or completely, without
hesitation or pause, the way a mother loves her
child. One thing we often fail to realize is that our
mothers work twenty-four hours a day, seven days
a week, three hundred and sixty-five days a year.
Even when they go on vacation, even when they are
having a sick day, we still depend on them to work
around the clock and do their job. Some mothers
work one or two jobs on top of their motherly
responsibilities. She manages to balance a hectic
schedule, ensure her children are healthy and try to
do their best in keeping them safe and happy. We
are so used to having our mothers pick up the slack
and go the extra mile that they are often taken for
granted.
We still argue and complain and believe that we are
always right, but whether we are or not tends to
overshadow the simple fact that our mothers never
have anything but our best interests at heart.

The people and relationships we maintain in living
are always evolving and we become more
independent the older we get, but a great mother
will always be the strongest bond. She is so much
more than a parent, but is a confidante and a friend.
A mother is always there for you. Plain and simple,
night and day. They help their children find their
way to success, encourage them to follow their
dreams and stick by their sides when times get
tough. They make an effort to understand their
children, the ways they think and trust them to
make the right decisions for themselves. They wait
patiently for their children to find themselves while
they stay on the sidelines, constantly cheering them
on. There is something unique about the love a
mother has for her child, as a mother’s love remains
unconditional.
When it comes to our mothers there are
innumerable things to be grateful for, but how
exactly do we thank someone for being the most
important and incredible person in the world? For
never faltering? For bringing us into the world? To
start, remember these blessings and all she does for
you, not just on Mother’s Day!
