REAL LIFE REAL FAITH MEN OF FAITH | MARCHY 2016 ERAS OF GREATNESS ALVIN L.A. HORN rampages.wssu.edu “Man Earl the Pearl invented the cross-over. You got all these fancy dribbling fools who don’t know a thing about how good them’ cats were back in the day.” “Ah man those old players can’t play ball against a good high school team.” “Son, you need to hush your mouth. That’s blasphemous to speak of the greats before you were even thought of.” Back In the Day VS Present Day Athlete It’s almost a rite of passage for the impassioned sports enthusiast to engage in a spirited conversation when speaking of different eras of greatness. We compare how it used to be and how it is today. We want to know if this era’s athletes would or would not dominate the athletes of other times. Even an angry debate can occur when comparing older men’s thoughts in generations of long ago, and how they feel younger men have no clue how good a team, a player, a fighter, or a coach was from the 90’s, 80’s, 70’s, 50’s and even before. Living to a certain age has afforthe older folks an opportunity to have seen live or live TV sports and the competition. A younger person only has YouTube as a source and maybe a classic sports channel to witness grainy clips of greatness. Some of the great competitions if we could only see the contrast of styles and strengths:Steph Curry Vs Allen Iverson in a one on one contest to 21 Welterweights, Sugar Ray Robinson VS Sugar Ray Leonard Vs Mayweather VS Roberto Duran Jim Brown VS Earl Campbell VS Emmitt Smith VS Gale Sayers VS Walter Payton VS Barry Sanders VS Adrian Peterson, which running back would you pick? Serena Williams VS Martina Navratilova, using the same rackets of either todays or yesterday’s rackets, who would win? A young Mohammad Ali VS a young Mike Tyson, who would be the Champ?ded
