What has been the most challenging part of the journey? I had tried to lose weight before and failed. The hardest part for me was believing that I could do this.

How did you use food to aid in your weight loss? I am a sweets junkie!! LOL!!! Cake, Ice Cream, and Cookies. I could drink a gallon of juice a day easy.

With so many gimmicks and other methods, like surgery to lose weight, what made you decide to lose it the traditional way? I wanted my kids to see that if you work hard and believe in yourself. Anything is possible. They understood that I made sacrifices to lose the weight. I had to give certain things up to reach my goal.

What’s the most rewarding part of the journey? I feel so much better! I remember if I would walk a quarter of a mile, I would be out of breath. I jog\walk\run at minimum 4 times a week for at least 2.5 miles. I have ran in two 5k races and I am working on competing in a half marathon.

How do you use food differently? I look back now and realize that I was a food addict. I still have urges and want sweets, but I don't let the urges dictate my eating behavior. I no longer drink sweet tea or fruit drinks. While losing the weight I did not eat sweets for over a year and a half. I indulge once a month on cake and ice cream and it satisfies my cravings.

Best tips and advice for those who wish to follow in your footsteps. It can be done. I am no one special. I would read one of my favorite bible verses while I was losing weight.

Joshua 1:5. " No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you." You are not alone in your struggle. Surround yourself with people that will encourage you in your journey. And it is a journey. Sometimes you may feel like nothing is happening, that it is just a waste of time. Keep working at your goal. I made my weight loss personal. I was not trying to please anyone except myself. When it was all said and done I was proud of my journey.
