When working on your base diet you really only need to know two words…. “whole foods”. The “big picture” of moving toward a good base diet is to move away from prepared/processed foods and back toward whole foods. Processed foods are anything that comes in a can, box, or bag… the foods that require “just add water”, fast foods, or the likes. Whole foods are foods are the basic building blocks of your diet…remember the food pyramid (not that I’m advocating it) from your school days? Things like meats, fruits and vegetables,

eans and legumes, whole grains, etc. When thinking about cooking with whole foods, just think about cooking the way your great, great, grandmother used to cook. By moving away from prepared/processed foods, you will automatically pull your diet back in line with what nature has intended. You will normalize your sodium intake, balance your pH, reduce your toxic load (preservatives, colorings, artificial sweeteners, etc.), stabilize your blood sugar and naturally get more quality nutrition with less calories.

Now some of you that have read that last paragraph are thinking about all the wonderful whole food recipes you can’t wait to get back into… others are dreading the thought of eating steamed broccoli and Foreman Grill chicken breasts night after night. For those in the latter camp, have no fear… call me and we can arrange a time to talk. At my clinic we see a variety of different clients seeking a variety of different health goals. For those that are seeking to get their nutrition under control, I offer a 28 day doctor supervised nutritional program that involves daily meal planning, grocery lists, recipes, support, and accountability. My goal is to make the transition to healthier living easy and enjoyable for anyone desiring to do so. Having more energy, shedding unwanted pounds, and experiencing a higher quality of life…it’s easier than you think!
