COMMUNITY EVENT FOR HAWAI’I ACTIVISTS PESTICIDES IN PARADISE: HOW HAWAIIAN COMMUNITIES TOOK ON THE CHEMICAL INDUSTRY AND WON New York City, NY, July 11 Real Food Media brought together more than 80 people for a rousing public event with advocates from Hawai’i who have been working for years to regulate the pesticide industry there. The event was a celebration of their big win this year: pesticide spray buffer zones around schools, mandatory disclosure of spraying, and a ban on the toxic insecticide chlorpyrifos—the first such ban in the nation.
