Being a Property Auctioneer in Australia is a very male dominated place. So as a woman in a “man’s world”, does this give any added pressures on you?

I definitely don’t feel any pressure, being a female auctioneer, to take on a strong male persona. I feel, as a female auctioneer, that I bring a totally unique element and dynamic to the auction floor which all of my clients’ value.

Why do you think this area is male dominated?

Typically people envision an auctioneer as a loud, fast talking male because traditionally that’s what it would have been when auctioneering first came about but the ideals of a great auctioneer have certainly evolved over time and I do think that you will see more females entering this domain.

I know that you are very conscious of looking and presenting the best image you can at your auctions and other facets of your business life. How important do you believe it is for the industry to present their best image?

An auctioneer is an extension and representation of their clients. We are on show from the moment we turn up to the auction until after we leave. It is so important that we present the best image of ourselves as this reflects directly on our clients.

What would you say to anyone wanting to be a full time Auctioneer?

Register to compete in the REINSW Novice Auctioneers Competition as this is where so many of the country’s best auctioneers started.

Are they going to give you a Cooley Scarf to match the Guy’s Cooley ties?

It has been discussed but we’re still on the hunt for the perfect female orange accessory.
