The winner’s cheque of R25,000 was
handed over by Akbar Hassim, CEO
of FutureDev Properties. Other prizes

Judges
The selection was made by votes from
the audience as well as the 5 judges
on the evening. The judges were Neale
Petersen, REIM founder and investor;
Dolf de Roos, international investor and
author; Candice Schultz, attorney and
investor; Warren Brusse, investor and
developer; and Akbar Hassim, investor
and developer.

Candidates
Each participant had seven minutes
to present their case to the judges and
audience, convincing them that they
should be investor of the year. The
shortlisted candidates who participated
on the evening were Marc Lunau from
Cape Town, Vanessa de Pinho from
Pretoria, Thabini Madela from Secunda,
Lehan le Grange from Johannesburg,
and Robin Booth from Cape Town.

The five candidates and judges
The criteria for selecting the winner in-
clude discipline in overcoming personal
or regulatory hurdles, entrepreneurial
flair in sourcing deals, creativity in fi-
nance or getting the deal, strategy type,
initiative and dedication, commitment
to see the deal through, contribution to
society, hard work, use of a team, and
education and lessons learnt. Does the
presentation of information provided
teach us things that we can learn, inspire
us, and does it entice the audience to
want to know more about successful real
estate investment?

After a close call and much deliberation,
the judges decided on Robin Booth as
the winner.
