KHAYA LAM Johann & Gaynor Rupert standing with new title owners in Stellenbosch promotes sound economic policies and the principles of good law. It is financed by membership subscriptions, donations and sponsorships. As a think tank it seeks and puts forward solutions to some of the country’s most pressing problems: unemployment, poverty, growth, education, health care, electricity supply, and more. The FMF was instrumental in the post-apartheid negotiations and directly influenced the Constitutional Commission to include the property rights clause: a critical cornerstone of economic freedom. Khaya Lam - 10 000 Title Deeds Drive A generation after apartheid, most black people do not yet own their land yet Khaya Lam delivers the real economic empowerment of home ownership to township residents. They were previously deprived of their dignity and rights under apartheid, by facilitating the conversion of council owned rental properties into freehold title - at no cost to the recipients. For more than 40 years the FMF has championed the cause of converting the numerous forms of Apartheid title found in the townships to full, unambiguous ownership for the current tenants. Here are very real projects that were made possible by the generosity of businessman Johann Rupert and his wife Gaynor. They have donated initially more than R15 million as significant sponsors of the Free Market Foundation’s (FMF) Khaya Lam (My Home) Land Reform Project. Khaya Lam (First initiative 100 titles) On the 16th  January 2018  a historic occasion took place in the Stellenbosch Town Hall where 117 full ownership titles together with the Stellenbosch executive mayor Councillor Gesie van Deventer and Gaynor Rupert to tenants of council properties. Khaya Lam (Second initiative 70 titles) On 16 November, 70 residents of the Karoo town of Aberdeen walked into the presentation hall as tenants and walked out as home owners, with full freehold title Khaya Lam (Third initiative - 326 titles) On 3 December, in Stellenbosch, Rupert and his wife Gaynor  presented more than 326 title deeds  that they have sponsored to the ‘new’ home owners, *FMF funding FMF seeks and accepts both institutional and project funding from individuals and organisations with shared general or project-specific objectives.
