Vilanculos:
Draped along the Indian Ocean; Vilankulo,
as it is also known, is named after the local
tribal chief, Gamala Vilankulo Mukoke.
This predominantly small town swells to
accommodate the large numbers during the
Summer holiday period. It boasts a new
international airport. It is also the gateway to
the Bazaruto Archipelago; some of the most
idyllic offshore tropical islands which make
up a string of natural wonders in the Indian
Ocean.

blue waters as well as breathtaking scuba
diving and snorkeling experiences. Vilanculos

A definite must do is a visit to the fishermen
at the local market. This where strong

bakery on the corner of the main street, where
one can smell freshly-baked ‘pão’ (bread) in
the early hours of the morning to kick start a
magical day in paradise.
The historic Dona Alice Hotel has now
been returned to it’s former glory and stands
as a true landmark of the Vilunculos area. It
