bath .” True , water isn ' t an electronic device ' s best friend . Yet , drop it in a Ziplock baggie , and once sealed , your e-reader is more waterproof ( or sandproof ) than a print book . There are also waterproof bags that are made to protect e-readers and tablets in the case they get caught in the rain or dropped in the pool . That might have happened when the first readers hit the market , but now your books are saved to your accounts or in a cloud . For example , if your Kindle breaks and you purchase a new one , you can simply log into your account and transfer all of your books into the new e-reader .
Other e-readers are using a similar technology to make sure you don ' t lose books you ' ve purchased , such as the Hidden Earth Series , Volume 2 , Planet Land by Janet Beasley . If you have any bookmarks or special notes , Kindle saves those too .
Myth 4 : “ You can ' t check out books from the library .” Most libraries have joined a service , such Overdrive , which allows them to create a virtual library . You can check out e-books , audio books , and even stream movies ( if your e-reader or other device allows this ) without leaving your favorite comfy chair . Curl up with a checked-out copy of The Untold Legend : the Warrior Queen by Amy I . Long .
Myth 5 : “ I can ' t lend or borrow e-books .” Amazon and Nook allow readers to ' lend ' a book for up to 14 days ( if the publisher allows ). Amazon also allows up to six users to access an account and share content with their “ Family Library ” option . It ' s a great way to share a novel like 28 Months of Heaven and Hell by J . D . Karns with a book group .

Myth 8 : “ E-readers take a lot of power .” Most e-readers have batteries that will let you read the entire enchanted epic fantasy Hidden Earth Series in one setting . Of course that might take you a few days … or a week , so we would suggest just starting with Volume 1 , Maycly the Trilogy , Book One ~ Two Altered Worlds .
Most e-readers , even with constant reading , will last for four to six weeks before needing a recharge . How many books you have loaded into your reader makes no difference as to how often it needs a power boost . However , if you ' re reader is using the wi-fi settings , that can use a little more juice than just reading , though not a largely significant amount .
Note : Using apps on tablets and phones , because they are constantly accessing wi-fi and running other apps at the same time , will affect the time their batteries perform between chargings .
Myth 9 : “ E-readers are expensive .” Depending on your budget , some e-readers can be expensive . The popularity and new technologies are encouraging companies to manufacture quality devices that are less expensive yet still feature rich . So keep an eye out ; there are some e-readers , such as the Sony PRS-500 , that are quite affordable at $ 30 dollars . Think also about the cost of books . Often readers will go to a used bookstore to save money when purchasing additions to their library — great for the reader , but the author doesn ' t receive any royalties from those purchases .
Many e-books are priced less than their print counterparts , allowing readers to fill their e-reader with new books comparable to the prices of a used book in good shape . ( The better the condition of a book the higher most used bookstores will price them .) Plus you have the bonus of supporting your favorite author . Authors receive royalty payments from all e-books sold .
