Happy New Year!!! Last year just flew by for me, but I suppose that happens when you get older, right? I was able to see a few movies in the theatre, two of which I discussed (Mockingjay, part 1 and The Giver) previously. There are several that will be released this coming season and I thought I'd take this month to highlight some of the anticipated book to film releases already slated for 2015. In no particular order: 1. Insurgent – my daughter is insisting that I watch these movies though they feel too similar to the Hunger Games and as with HG, too reminiscent of The Giver. It is, however a much anticipated release. (3/20/15 US release) 2. Mortdecai – I have not yet read the book (The Mortdecai Trilogy by Kyril Bonfiglioli) but I will have to since I am eager to see this Johnny Depp film costarring a slew of brilliant actors including the fabulous Ewan McGregor! (1/23/15 US release) 3. Seventh Son – They had me at Ben Barnes and Jeff Bridges. Based on The Spook's Apprentice by Joseph Delaney (which has been on my “to be read” list for too long), this film should be a pleaser for the YA fantasy crowd. (2/6/15 US release) 4. Fifty Shades of Grey – I cannot NOT mention this film though I have been unable to finish even the first book (don't get me started on this one). This film apparently is one of THE most anticipated new releases of 2015 though I cannot for the life of me understand why. (2/13/15 US release) 5. Serena – Honestly, I would have left this one off if not for the cast. Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper are two of my favorite actors and while I have not yet read this book either, I look forward to both book and movie. (2/26/15 US release) 6. The Scorch Trials – another sequel in a series I am just not able to get excited about. This is the follow up to The Maze Runner and based on the novels by James Dashner. It seems another variation of the Hunger Games/Giver/Divergent groups though admittedly The Giver precedes all of the others and should be given more acknowledgements for that. (9/18/15 US release)
