If I meet somebody who hasn't read the books I balk for a moment and then
tell them to read them, immediately. Then, watch the movies. Enjoy them,
enjoy the reprieve from the ugliness in our world and enter Tolkien's where
nobody is inconsequential.
So this month was a touch different, but I'm having fun branching out with
my column. And with the last installment of The Hobbit to be released
shortly, I felt it appropriate to address just how important these books have
been, just how much of a role they have played in my life. I know I'm not the
only one to have been touched by Tolkien's world and I hope that many
more engage with Middle Earth for generations to come.
