12 Safety Tips

for Bike Riding

Tip #1 - Wear bright colored clothing and/or reflective materials on your clothing.

Tip #2 - Ride with the flow of traffic.

Tip #3 - Obey all traffic laws; including traffic signs, signals and pavement markings.

Tip #4 - Communicate your intentions to other road users by using appropriate hand signals.

Tip #5 - Use hand signals when stopping or turning.

Tip #6 - Yield to pedestrians.

Tip #7 - Stay alert and observant; do not wear headphones or listen to music while riding.

Tip #8 - Always stop, and look both ways before entering the roadway.

Tip #9 - When riding in a group, ride in a single-file versus side-by-side.

Tip #10 - If riding alone, let family members or friends know your planned route and when you expect to return home.

Tip #11 - Add headlight on handlebar, and reflective flashing light on seatpost (verify with Doug).

Tip #12 - Wear a proper fitting bike helmet.
