Elements For A Healthier Life Magazine Issue 08 | December 2016 | Page 63

This photograph for this page kept showing up as I scrolled through thousands of images. Listening to my intuition, I saved it to my computer’s desktop. For the life of me I couldn’t figure out how a Great Lakes freighter had anything to do with health and wellness. (Seriously, I was clueless!) I left the house and had driven my truck about two miles down the road on my way to the post office when it hit me.

Slow and steady gets you there - no matter the conditions.

Back in 2004, on the way home from a week-long trip in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I snapped a photo of the same freighter from Highway 2 as it was approaching the Mackinaw Bridge. We got caught in a traffic back-up and sat idle for a bit. When we finally made our way across the five mile suspension bridge, I was surprised it’d only made it as far as it did, and snapped this picture.

If you notice, it’s breaking the ice shelf as it traverses Lake Michigan. It’s alone out there making its way to its destination. The ship is on course and it will get to the port in due time. Slow and steady. That’s it. That was my reminder to slow down, everything is as it’s meant to be, my current keeps me flowing. I recognize that some days I’ll be in the rapids and everything will be cruising by at warp speed. On other days, I’ll be breaking the ice shelf in front of me, trudging along to get it out of my way.

The intention I’ve set for myself in 2017 is an extension of 2016’s - Self-Love. Who else is ready to allow the current of life guide you?
