can mean carrying that weight with you for the whole nine years.

A resolution list is one source of those negative patterns - it’s focused on the past not the future. It’s counterintuitive: on the surface it seems to be about the future - after all, it’s a list about what you resolve to do in the new year. In fact, it’s a look back at things you feel you’re not doing right.

Intentions are about the future; they’re the vision of what you’d like to create. Do you see the difference? More importantly, can you feel the difference in your body?

That’s positive creative energy.

So how do you set intentions?

~Choose a time and place when you can be quiet and uninterrupted for as long as you need. Have a pen and paper handy.

~Get comfortable, take a few deep breaths, settle yourself a bit, and close your eyes.

~Envision what you’d like your life to look like - right down to small details. Envision various areas and aspects of your life.

~Write out the intentions that represent what you envision: “I intend to create ________ to support my highest self.”

~For added emphasis, you can make a copy of your intentions and send it out to the universe through burning the list, burying the list, or dropping the list into moving water.

~Begin to create: For example, if you set an intention to create a personal wellness space in your home, begin to gather the things as you have envisioned them. It’s always helpful to ask for divine guidance, as well.

Intention-setting is an art, and you get more skilled at it the more you practice. The key is positive energy - looking forward to creating supportive, nurturing things in your life.

As we close out this year, take some time to envision the life you want to create, and rather than making a resolutions list, set your intentions. Notice how different it feels.

Take that positive energy with you into 2017 and create the divine life as you dream of with ease and grace.
