How do you feel, right here, right now?

Is it easy for you to immediately identify your feelings? How much thought do you have to put into accessing your core feeling(s) in any given moment?

For most of us, we have to stop and think for a moment or longer because we are resisting the actual ‘feeling’ of a given feeling. Very often, we may not be aware of our resistance to feeling whatever it is we’re feeling.

Feelings matter! All of them. Although feelings are not “who” we are, they matter because they are our spiritual compass.

For that reason, they are a gift. You probably haven’t heard that before.

Let me explain:

We are emotional beings meant to feel. It’s how our spirit navigates the world. But because we’re not taught that, when it comes to feelings, most people deny, repress, invalidate, minimize, or try to change how they actually feel in an effort to “feel good.” Or, when we are enjoying the moment and experiencing “good” feelings, we put a lot of effort into prolonging those feel good moments. Of course, who doesn't want more of those?

The truth is, time can’t be frozen when we’re feeling good, and it can’t be sped up when feelings aren’t so pleasant. But “frozen” is a very real state of being for many people, when it comes to dealing with feelings.

What if we began to understand that feelings cause emotions, denied or not? And emotions have to be expressed, or they tend to get louder and louder until they find a way to be expressed one way or another? Raw emotions can come out sideways in behaviors, outbursts, loss of clarity,
