In my role as Editor at Re: Magazine and Marketing Director
for Mayo Wynne Baxter I am lucky enough to get more than
my fair share of opportunities to attend glitzy events and
at the end of last year I was lucky enough to be one of the
judges in the Sussex Business Awards which is now in it’s
27th year.
The judging process itself was tough
for my award, Most Promising New
Business, and had the most entrants
of any category. The awards event
was held in The Grand in Brighton and
500 of the county’s leading business
people gathered to celebrate business
excellence across the region, with
16 awards presented by nationallyrenowned comedian, Simon Evans.
One of the highlights of the night was
The Award for the Greatest Contribution
to Sussex Charity, which went to
Kevin Byrne, CEO of Selsey-based
Checkatrade.com. The award adds

to a remarkable collection for Kevin
who won Company of the Year at the
Sussex Business Awards in 2013,
Businessperson of the Year in 2012 and
Entrepreneur of the Year
