…it’s because of the food and drink Unlike many villages similar in size, there are many options when it comes to dining out in Lindfield. I’d recommend The Witch Inn on Sunte Avenue for a drink and a nibble. If you are after a good pub meal then head to the Bent Arms at the top of the High Street, recently refurbished it serves delicious lunch and dinner – my particular favourite is the ploughmans – cheese and ham, coleslaw, salad, home made bread, fresh apple and chutneys, what more could you want! The Sunday roasts are also delicious but there’s always the need book ahead. We sometimes have a drink in the pub’s beautiful beer garden and head next door to the very popular Italian restaurant Paolino – better than any chain restaurant in neighbouring Haywards Heath. …it’s because of the shops Lindfield doesn’t exactly contain a plethora of shopping options, however there are is a wide variety of smaller, independent retailers selling high quality local goods which my husband and I are very keen to support. The butcher and green grocer are our particular favourites – the butcher is a typical village oldfashion butcher with locally caught game hanging in the windows and, whilst it shouldn’t be the case, we are fortunate to still have a green grocer in the village as this is becoming a rarity across the country. Both also open at 7am on a weekday which is particularly helpful to pick up dinner on the way to work! Without meaning to show off…we also have not one but two children’s’ toy shops, a very well stocked wine merchant, two pharmacists, two tea rooms (I’d recommend Fika for their cakes), numerous ladies clothes shops, a homewear shop, a florist, a bridal shop, a kitchen shop and a bakery never seen without a queue out of the door. Lastly, as if that wasn’t enough, Lindfield now has two barbers, a hairdressers and a very good beauticians in case you’re in need of sprucing up! There really is a shop for almost everything you could need, all conveniently situated on the High Street. 84
