that the pond serves as a focal point for
the tired cyclists undertaking the London
to Brighton cycle ride.
Lindfield residents are also lucky to
have a particularly large village green
which plays host to a whole range of
events throughout the year including
the Summer Fayre at the end of May,
Lindfield Village Day in the summer and
the Lindfield Bonfire on 5 November.
Unsurprisingly, the bonfire doesn’t quite
rival the nearby Lewes Bonfire (but then,
what could) but we do have a Lindfield
Bonfire Society and they put on a very
good show. The village green is always
packed with people as the fireworks
display is top class and seems to go on
forever – well worth a visit for those who
want to avoid the madness of the Lewes
Bonfire celebrations.
The green also includes a cricket pitch
which in the summer months is used on
an almost daily basis – my husband and
I like to stroll down to the green (which is
only a couple of minutes from our house)
and take in the atmosphere - he tries to
watch the cricket and I try to understand
it. There is always something going on
at the green be it at the tennis courts,
Bowls Club or children’s play area, it
is a lovely place to sit and just ‘be’.
Alternatively, you can join in with the local
fitness fanatics running about the place
– I can assure you that you’ll see at least
one runner on any visit to Lindfield, there
must be something in the water.
