News April Fools More of us than would care to admit here at MWB were completely duped by our chief executive, Chris Randall’s brilliant April Fools’ Day prank. The more astute of us were perfectly aware of what day it was and waited eagerly to see what this year’s would be (last year we were told lime green uniforms were to become compulsory). We each received a long, professionally worded email explaining how the firm had decided to branch further afield, into Europe – and more specifically merging with a firm in Dublin. We were to be renamed Kevin Wynne Baxter to incorporate part of the Irish firm’s title. Our marketing department had a couple of panic calls about branding, stationery and signage for the new office in the Emerald Isle but slowly people began to click. Chris included in his prank a couple of fairly convincing pictures of himself and Kevin shaking hands and sealing the dealing. It’s fair to say at least one or two of us were disappointed when the truth dawned… Money Box One of our probate, trusts and wills solicitors, Christina Spencer, was recommended to be a member of the expert panel on BBC Radio 4’s Money Box programme by one of her clients. She bravely agreed and was part of a panel who, for half an hour discussed the topic ‘should you leave your money to your children, or spend it all before you go?’ They talked about how to decide what’s fair, how to make sure your future is secure, and how to manage difficult conversations about inheritance. They also discussed what options you have if you want to challenge someone’s Will or the plans they have for their estate. Thanks to all the listeners that contacted us to say how helpful her advice was. Our legal advisers are often considered to be leading experts in their field and we get quite a lot of requests from TV, radio and publications asking for our views and comments on news items and changes to the law. We are lucky to have such a brilliant team. 6
