Re: Summer 2016 | Page 100

End of an era As this article is being written it appears that British Home Stores has been placed into administration or at least will be. Type the phrase “High Street Administration” into your favourite search engine and the likelihood is that you will see on the first page an article listing the stores no longer on the High Street and possibly reports of one or two about to enter an insolvency process. The High Street has lost, and continues to lose, stores with close to or over 100 years presence on our High Street. Each will have had there own problems but common to all will be the loss of many jobs over the country as a whole and a nostalgic memory or two. Some of the well known names who have entered Administration have returned, HMV for instance entered administration in 2013, however having been purchased by a new buyer it remains on the High Street once again the biggest retailer of physical music in Britain in 2015. JJB Sports was ‘rescued’ after being placed into Administration in 2012. 20 stores were saved after they were brought by Sports Direct
