Coconut oil I joined the world of Pintrest about a year ago and I have been addicted ever since, with over 1000 pins to my board so far. One of the things I have come across is the ever amazing coconut oil, and I need to share it with you... Coconut oil is one of the few foods that can be classified as a “superfood.” Its unique combination of fatty acids can have profound positive effects on health. It contains a unique combination of fatty acids with powerful medicinal properties, like medium chain triglycerides which are metabolised differently. There seems to be a millions uses for it, OK maybe not a million but I bet you it isn’t far off. I won’t bore you with them all but here are a few: • herapeutic effects on several brain T disorders • ncreased energy expenditure helping I you burn more fat as well as killing hunger, making you eat less without even trying • auric acid within can kill bacteria, L viruses and fungi helping stave off infections • t can increase blood sugar levels and I may lower the risk of heart disease • rotects hair from damage, moisturises P skin and acts as a sunscreen • ooking or as a creamer in coffee C • il pulling – to whiten teeth and leave O healthy gums 98 • ug repellant B • educes stretch marks as well as being R great for baby’s bum • Dog treats • Wood furniture rub It comes in a jar as a solid but it has a low melting point so doesn’t take much to become a liquid. Some of my friends’ tried and tested uses are: banana loaf, coconut macaroons, body scrub, hair conditioner, cuticle rub and oil pulling. Oil Pulling involves swishing oil around the mouth and has been used for thousands of years as an Indian folk remedy. In order to oil pull, you put between a tablespoon and a teaspoon of oil in your mouth and then swish it around for 15-20 minutes- just like you would with mouth wash, only you don’t have to panic if you swallow it. This reduces the amount of harmful bacteria in the mouth. Having some plaque on your teeth is normal, but if it gets out of hand it can cause all sorts of problems, including: bad breath, yellow teeth, gum
