The drive from the airport to our hotel this time was the polar opposite to Las Vegas and New York with the beautiful green surroundings and long white sandy beaches , with no traffic or even people around . It was a far cry from the craziness we experienced in America . Our resort was all-inclusive and every bit as beautiful and luxurious as we were hoping for . Our days here were relaxed and the most walking we did was from the sun lounger to the bar . Sometimes the barman even drove along the beach delivering drinks !
With three different restaurants and a number of bars , the all-inclusive facilities were perfect and something I would highly recommend to anyone who fancies visiting . The food was particularly delicious so over-eating became the main activity on this part of the holiday . with the romance pouring out from the sight . Or maybe that was because I was on honeymoon .
After another three long , tiring but amazing days we were ready for the beach . Perfectly timed at the end of the trip we had six nights in Antigua .
The St James Club resort that we stayed in had everything we could have asked for ; there was really no need to venture elsewhere . However , not content with just our resort we did take one trip out to explore part of the island and visited Shirley Heights , which is considered one of the must do things in Antigua .
Shirley Heights is a beautiful viewing spot over English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour and is often used as an iconic image of Antigua . We decided to visit on a Sunday night during a weekly party to watch the sun go down . With a barbeque , rum punch and local bands playing Caribbean-flavoured music the party was in full flow and it was a great time to relax and enjoy the island with locals and tourists .
I was lucky enough to spend my birthday in Antigua and there are not many places in the world where I ’ d rather be . The island gives you total relaxation , gorgeous views and delicious food . What more could you want for total chill out time ?
The two weeks went in a flash and we couldn ’ t have asked for a more exciting and varied experience . Every place we went to lived up to our high expectations and I would thoroughly recommend anyone to take the trip if , like us , you wanted a mixture of city and beach !
