Yalumba “ The Y Series ” Unwooded Chardonnay

In 1849 , British-born Samuel Smith , purchased a 30 acre plot of land in Australia so he could begin a new life . He named his new land “ Yalumba ”, which is Aboriginal for “ all the land around ”. He planted the first vines on the property , and five generations later , Yalumba is Australia ’ s oldest family-owned winery .
Yalumba “ The Y Series ” Unwooded Chardonnay got my attention as I ’ m not a big fan of the heavy oak flavours in most Chardonnays . This one displays some fresh aromas of pineapple and citrus fruit that is perfect for summer . On my initial gulp there were notes of tropical fruit on the palate complemented by a crisp minerality and a refreshing acidity . It is best served very cold and worked well for me with a light chicken salad on a hot , sunny day dining alfresco .
