Classy
Coupe
For years the Mercedes S-Class
saloon has been considered by many
as one of the best luxurious cars in
the world and this September sees
the arrival in the UK of the acclaimed
S-Class Coupé which replaces the
CL model.
Surprisingly, we will see the powerful
S63 AMG and S65 AMG versions of the
S-Class Coupe first, ahead of the regular
S500 variant which isn’t scheduled to go
on sale until early 2015.
The eight-cylinder S63 AMG Coupé –
priced at £125,595 OTR – generates a
mighty 585 hp and 900 Nm of torque to
provide effortless performance. For those
84
wishing even more performance, the
S65 AMG Coupé – priced at £183,065 –
produces 630 hp and develops 1000 Nm
of torque.
One further engine - the S500 Coupé
AMG Line – will follow in early 2015 –
priced from £96,565 OTR. All models will
make the leap from 0-62mph in less than
five seconds
Across the range, Active Parking Assist
with a reversing camera, an expansive
panoramic roof, an ultra-sharp TFT
12.3” display, the clever Magic Vision
Control system, COMAND Online and
a choice of nine metallic paint options
come as standard.
In addition, the S63 AMG Coupé
is equipped with the Seat Comfort
Package, the spookily smooth Magic
Body Control, and thumping Burmester
surround sound system with 13 highperformance speakers. As if that wasn’t
enough, the S65 AMG Coupé adds
a Head-up display, a TV Tuner, a 360
camera, and Night View Assist – capable
of detecting hazards on the road ahead
via an infrared camera.
The Premium Package (£4,995
when applied to the S500) adds 20”
alloy wheels, illuminated door sills,
the Seat Comfort Pack, Keyless-Go
Package, Burmester sound system,
Climatised Seats to keep you cool or
It’s the quietest seriesproduction car of all in terms
of wind noise
warm depending on the weather, a 360
camera and Air Balance – a system
through which air is passed to remove
pollutants and fragranced with a choice
of perfumes.
The AMG Exterior Carbon-fibre Package
(£5,000) adds carbon-fibre elements to
the outside of the car while the AMG
Night Package (£765) offers the AMG
sports exhaust system with two black
chrome finished twin tailpipes, and highgloss black highlights.
Further options include the Panoramic
roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL
(£4,030), refrigerated compartment in the
rear (£1,130), and brake callipers painted
in red (£620 available on the S63 AMG
and S65 AMG).
The second is a system which leans the
cars into bends like a motorcycle.
The equipment offered on the new
S-Class Coupé combines to make it
one of the most refined and comfortable
cars on the road today. It’s the quietest
series-production car of all in terms of
wind noise with excellent aeroacoustic
performance due to improved insulation
and aerodynamic body shell.
The S-Class Coupe looks like it has been
designed to offer the exclusivity and
luxury to match a Bentley Continental
GT and Aston Martin DB9, while offering
an even more pampering ride, more
technology and all for a comparatively
lower price.
Mercedes has introduced two new
features on this new car that have never
before been seen on a production car.
The first is the use of crystals in the
daytime running lights and indicator
repeaters to create a clearer beam.
Luxury and good looks will ensure this
car will be a hit.
